Dr. Robert Cutchen
Dr. Robert Cutchen, New Mexico’s most trusted vein specialist, founded Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute in 2009. Originally dedicated solely to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease, his goal was to provide the most advanced diagnostic and vein treatment options provided in the comfort of his office without the need for hospitalization. Each and every patient is treated the way we ourselves would hope to be treated by a medical provider.
Robert Cutchen, MD, RVS, RVT, RPVI
Dr. Robert Cutchen, a native of Albuquerque, seeks to provide the most advanced and thorough vein care available in New Mexico and the Southwest United States. Dr. Cutchen is an expert in his field, offering only the latest technology and treatments available for varicose and spider veins including endovenous laser ablation, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and cosmetic sclerotherapy. This treatment protocol is a radical departure from the old surgical procedure of vein stripping, which involved hospital stays, general anesthesia and days or weeks of recovery. He performs all vein treatments using only local anesthesia in his beautiful Albuquerque vein center, thus providing minimal discomfort and downtime and optimal results for his patients.
In 2021, Dr. Cutchen committed to expanding his medical practice into the field of laser-based cosmetic medicine.
He attended medical school at the University of New Mexico following graduation from Brigham Young University with a degree in Zoology and a minor in Spanish. Following medical school, Dr. Cutchen completed an internship in general surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He then returned to Albuquerque and completed a residency in family medicine at the University of New Mexico. Immediately following completion of residency training, Dr. Cutchen began working in the field of Phlebology, the diagnosis, and treatment of vein disorders. During this time, he also became skilled in the use of diagnostic vascular ultrasound and earned the Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), and Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) credentials. Dr. Cutchen is a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Cutchen and his wife are the proud parents of four children.

Expansion of Practice into Cosmetic Laser Medicine
Although our practice has solely focused on venous disease since opening in 2009, we’ve always performed cosmetic spider vein treatments in the form of sclerotherapy. For years Dr. Cutchen had been interested in including more aesthetic treatments into our practice but hadn’t found the right laser platform or the right nurse. When we discovered the Harmony XL Pro by Alma Lasers, we knew we were on to something. The treatments are highly effective and most of them are virtually painless.Â
We love the Harmony XL Pro’s tremendous versatility and effectiveness. Over the years we heard so many patients talk about laser treatments that they had done, and the associated pain and lack of real results. With the Harmony XL Pro, we are seeing amazing results in the areas of laser hair removal, tattoo removal, photo rejuvenation for sun damage, vascular lesions, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles, and non-ablative skin resurfacing to address fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, pigmented lesions and age spots. Additionally, we were the first practice to add the Opus Plasma system in New Mexico, which provides an “ablative” skin resurfacing treatment, causing micro-perforations to the skin using plasma. This then leads to skin remodeling and collagen production, with the end result being tighter, fuller skin. It also diminishes pore size and smooths out color. We can see results after the first treatment and the best results will occur after 3 treatments over about 3 months. The results of this procedure are similar to CO2 laser treatments but without cosmetic downtime.
Our latest addition is the Alma Accent Prime non-invasive body contouring system. This amazing device allows us to destroy fat cells using ultrasound technology and then use radiofrequency energy to tighten and tone skin. Say goodbye to cellulite, saddle bags and that stubborn belly fat.
