Opus™ Plasma Skin Resurfacing

An innovative, first-of-its-kind radiofrequency skin resurfacing technology is now available in New Mexico at Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute! You’re probably familiar with micro-needling to improve the skin’s surface, but Opus™ Plasma Skin Resurfacing takes micro-needling to the next level, combining radiofrequency energy and fractional plasma to improve the skin’s tone and texture with 15 minute treatments that require only minimal downtime. Opus™ Plasma is built upon the popular and widely accepted science of fractional resurfacing. With Opus™ Plasma, you can enjoy the benefits of fractional skin resurfacing with just a fraction of the downtime associated with traditional micro-needling.

RF micro-needling, or radiofrequency micro-needling, is the next-generation of fractional skin resurfacing that creates a pattern of tiny micro-injuries to a fraction of the skin, while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. These micro-ablations stimulate a natural healing response, leading the skin to repair itself and produce new collagen and elastin, the building blocks of smooth, youthful looking skin, resulting in noticeable improvements in texture, tone, and pigmentation.

This is an outpatient treatment that is performed after our aesthetic nurse cleanses your skin and applies a topical anesthetic. Depending on the condition of your skin, the degree of discomfort may vary, but settings can be adjusted to minimize discomfort so that you can have the most comfortable experience. Treatment is administered via a rolling hand piece for areas such as the face, neck, belly, flanks and more. A smaller stamp can be used around sensitive areas such as crow’s feet, lip lines and other more pronounced wrinkles. Unlike traditional laser-based skin resurfacing technologies, Opus Plasma precisely controls the time that the RF energy makes contact with the skin, minimizing the inflammation that typically contributes to longer recovery times.

This innovative procedure is great for all skin types and is perfect for men and women looking to minimize wrinkles and reverse damage caused by sun and the natural aging process.  The procedure’s versatility enables us to adjust treatment intensity from light to aggressive, depending on the patient’s skin and goals, allowing us to treat virtually anyone with concerns about their skin’s appearance on their face, neck, abdomen, and arms.

Patients may begin to notice improvements following the initial procedure, but two-three treatments are typically required for optimal results.  A clinical study has shown that Opus™ Plasma requires 50% less downtime as compared to traditional skin resurfacing laser treatments. Redness, flaking and dry skin can be expected, but should only last for 24-48 hours. Applying a heavy-duty moisturizer, such as Aquaphor, on all treated areas is recommended for 24 hours post-treatment. A series of treatments can produce results for the following, similar to what you’d see after an aggressive CO2 laser, but without the lengthy recovery time:

  • Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improvements to loose and saggy skin
  • Minimized acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks
  • Overall skin rejuvenation
