How Does Botox® Work?
Some lines and wrinkles develop when we laugh, smile, or frown. The facial muscles crease the skin in areas like the forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows. Botox® works on these areas by stopping signals from the nerves that control the facial muscles. The muscle stops contracting so the skin can relax, looking smoother and softer. Botox® works best on dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
As the skin ages, it loses collagen and becomes looser. Sagging skin can lead to lines and creases such as the nasolabial folds between the outer corners of the nose and mouth. Dermal fillers like Restylane®, which is our preferred dermal filler, can lift and plump these lines and wrinkles. They can also add volume to areas like the cheeks and lips. Restylane® works using hyaluronic acid, a large molecule that maintains hydration in the skin. This molecule acts by plumping and increasing volume, lifting lines and wrinkles from beneath, adding volume to the skin that can smooth out wrinkles and folds and even make the skin look more youthful.
