How are Varicose Veins Treated?
Dr. Cutchen will develop a treatment plan for your varicose veins based on your consultation and assessment of your leg veins. While the plan may only use one method, it is common for it to include several forms of treatment.Â
Conservative Vein Therapy
While it does not address the underlying issues, conservative vein therapy can temporarily reduce symptoms. In some cases, insurance may require a trial of conservative therapy before moving on to other methods. This treatment may include compression stockings and other non-invasive methods.Â
Endovenous Laser Treatment
If the large veins in your legs have become dysfunctional, endovenous laser treatment is the definitive solution. This treatment uses a thin fiber inserted into the problem vein to emit pulses of laser energy. The energy damages the inside of the vein, causing it to collapse. Your body redirects blood flow to functional veins.Â
Sclerotherapy/Endovenous Chemical Ablation
Endovenous chemical ablation is a form of sclerotherapy. It can treat varicose veins not visible on the surface by using ultrasound to inject a chemical agent. This chemical causes damage to the vein walls, closing off the vein and allowing it to be absorbed by your body. Sclerotherapy can also be used to treat some spider veins.Â
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
Visible varicose veins can take time to fade, but ambulatory phlebectomy physically removes them using tiny freckle-sized incisions and small hook-like tools. This minimally invasive treatment provides immediate improvements in the appearance of the treated vein instead of waiting for it to fade over time.Â
