How Long Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Last?

Laser Skin Resurfacing is a powerful tool in our ability to solve visible skin problems, including signs of aging, sun damage, and skin laxity. At Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute, we offer the Opus™ Plasma treatment to give you all the benefits of laser skin resurfacing with just minimal downtime. Opus™ Plasma is unique in that it uses two forms of energy to promote skin regeneration that may last for a year or more.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Typical laser skin resurfacing uses light energy to create areas of controlled micro-damage to the skin. A laser that treats small areas and leaves the surrounding skin untouched is called a fractional laser. These cause significantly less skin trauma than a laser that treats the entire surface. Opus™ Plasma goes a step beyond light energy and uses a combination of radiofrequency and plasma energy to stimulate collagen production while speeding up cell turnover, shedding damaged cells and bringing healthy new ones to the surface.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

The Opus™ Plasma uses a handheld device with pins that generate radiofrequency energy. When these charged pins come close to the skin, the charge creates plasma. Each tiny burst of plasma causes an area of micro-damage surrounded by healthy skin. The process speeds up cell turnover, so you lose old, damaged, pigmented skin cells and see them replaced with even-toned, brighter skin. It also improves collagen production, leading to firmer skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.

How Long Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Last?

After one treatment, you will see some results, but most patients require a series of three for optimal results. After you finish your series of treatments, you can expect your laser skin resurfacing results to last six months to a year. We recommend maintenance treatments to keep your results looking refreshed and glowing.

What Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Treat?

When you choose laser skin resurfacing with Opus™ Plasma, you can enjoy benefits that include minimal downtime and long-lasting results. You can expect to see improvements in:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Skin texture and tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sun damage
  • Skin laxity

Your skin will look more youthful and even-toned after treatment, and you can expect results that last at least six months and even longer with good skincare and sun protection.

Is There Any Downtime With Laser Skin Resurfacing?

You can return to your regular activities after treatment. However, you will have some redness and sensitivity that feels like sunburn and lasts a few days. Skin will also feel dry and may peel. We will recommend lotions suitable for use to manage dryness. The peeling results from old, damaged skin cells shedding as new ones move to the surface.
