Meet Dr. Robert Cutchen

In 2009, Dr. Cutchen founded Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute, a clinic dedicated solely to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease. His goal was to provide the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options all in the comfort of his office without the need for hospitalization. Top 3 Benefits of Spider Vein Treatment

Up to 50% of people have spider veins. These tiny damaged veins often spread like a spiderweb or tree roots, and when they occur in visible areas, they can become unwelcome. Dr. Robert Cutchen offers treatments to decrease or eliminate the appearance of spider veins. He can also diagnose and treat any underlying venous conditions.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins form when blood pools in small veins close to the skin’s surface. This pooled blood can cause the affected veins to look red, blue, or purple. Most spider veins are harmless, but clusters of spider veins around the ankles can indicate a possible problem with venous circulation. Spider veins typically occur on the face and legs but can also appear in other areas such as the chest.

What Causes Spider Veins?

Spider veins often occur for no known reason. Heredity plays a substantial role, and most people with spider veins have a family history. Women develop spider veins more often than men, and hormones contribute to their development. Age causes a gradual weakening of the vein walls, making spider veins more likely.

Top 3 Benefits of Spider Vein Treatment

If your spider veins do not bother you, you might choose to leave them alone. If they do, and you want to diminish or erase their appearance, spider vein treatment is faster and simpler than you might expect.

Minimal Downtime

Dr. Cutchen uses two types of spider vein treatment. Both require little to no downtime. You can resume most of your usual activities after treatment. Many treatments take half an hour or less, making clear skin easier to fit into your schedule.

Improved Appearance

Spider vein treatment can significantly diminish or even eliminate the appearance of spider veins. As the treated veins fade, your skin will look more even, and the appearance of discolored “webbing” will disappear.

Effectiveness

When administered by a vein specialist like Dr. Cutchen or his experienced staff, treatments are highly effective in fading or eliminating spider veins. Many people see their spider veins disappear and achieve clear, unblemished skin.

How are Spider Veins Treated?

For most spider veins, Dr. Cutchen uses sclerotherapy. During this treatment, he injects an FDA-approved solution into the spider veins. This solution irritates and collapses the vein walls, stopping blood flow.

Veins less than 0.3 mm respond well to treatment with the VeinWave™. A thin fiber placed next to the vein emits a pulse of radiofrequency energy that causes the target vein to collapse. In both cases, the treated veins will fade over the next few weeks as the body clears them away.
