A board-certified physician, Dr. Robert Cutchen opened his own dedicated vein clinic, Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute, in the spring of 2009 to provide the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options, all in the comfort of his office without the need for hospitalization. His goal is to treat every patient the way we ourselves would hope to be treated.
“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we opened our doors and saw our first patient. We have treated patients from all over New Mexico, Arizona, southern Colorado, west Texas, and even a couple patients from Kansas and Illinois who traveled all this way just to see us. We have seen great outcomes with our patients and feel like the future is bright. The understanding of venous disease is slowly improving among medical professionals and the general public, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. One of my goals is to continue helping other physicians better understand what we do so that they can better serve the needs of their patients. We have seen some new technologies in our 10 years of work. New techniques for ablation of veins as well as new sclerosant products which make treating veins even easier are now available. The future is bright. We look forward to meeting more New Mexicans who needlessly endure painful varicose veins, unsightly spider veins, and other issues to help them give new life to their legs.”

Throughout the last 20 years, the practice of phlebology (diagnosis and treatment of vein disease) has changed dramatically. Ultrasound and laser technology allow us to perform in-office procedures versus the previous vein-stripping procedures done in hospitals under general anesthesia. Through it all, Dr. Cutchen has remained a vein industry pioneer, always training in the latest state-of-the-art technology, and advancing his own vein specialist skills by the additional studies required to be board-certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and to be certified as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). These certifications are critical to vein specialists in the proper diagnosis of vein disease through the use of ultrasound mapping of the venous system.
My experience was first rate. Dr Cutchen is professional and down-to-earth at the same time.
I was very comfortable at this institute and the staff is friendly and helpful.
I also want to mention I am so happy with the results!!!
I highly recommend this Dr and Albuquerque Vein & Laser institute.
Due to the complexities of the venous system and the often times confusing relationship between varicose and spider veins, his office offers free vein screenings where each patient receives a visual exam and a review of their vein symptoms. Additionally, Dr. Cutchen is always available for a full vein disease consultation and diagnostic ultrasound testing. Depending on the initial diagnosis, his office will either work with you to schedule your series of spider vein treatments or if diagnostic testing shows the presence of venous reflux, your treatment plan comprised of one or all of the following will be developed: Endovenous Laser Ablation, Endovenous Chemical Ablation, and Ambulatory Phlebectomy. His staff is both helpful and professional when dealing with your insurance provider, and are happy to take you through the process.
