How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal
You can take a few simple steps to ensure good results from your laser hair removal. Because treatment targets pigments inside the hair root, preparation means making sure those hair roots are present and prepared for the laser.
First, you should avoid anything that removes the hair root or strips its pigment. Follicles with no or bleached hair become “invisible” to the laser. Avoid waxing, plucking, or bleaching your hair for four weeks before treatment. You can still shave since this leaves the root in place.
You should avoid tanning, excess sun exposure, and self-tanners for four weeks before treatment. Sun exposure before your session puts you at risk of possible side effects. You should also plan to avoid sun exposure for several weeks after treatment.
You should shave the day before your treatment and arrive with clean, product-free skin. Let your team know ahead of time if you have a skin infection or injury in the treatment area.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?
Hair grows in cycles, with not all follicles active at any given time. Most people need six to eight treatments to achieve their best results. You will see a decrease in hair regrowth after each treatment session. Some hairs may reappear in the future, but they will be lighter and finer than before. Occasional maintenance treatments can control these strays.
