Meet Dr. Robert Cutchen

In 2009, Dr. Cutchen founded Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute, a clinic dedicated solely to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease. His goal was to provide the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options all in the comfort of his office without the need for hospitalization. How Many Opus Plasma® Treatments Do I Need?

You might have heard of microneedling, a powerful skin rejuvenation treatment that triggers collagen development. Opus Plasma® adds radiofrequency (RF) energy and plasma to maximize your benefits and make your skin smoother and firmer than similar treatments with just minimal social downtime.

What is Opus Plasma® Skin Rejuvenation?

Opus Plasma® is a skin resurfacing treatment that uses a combination of microneedling and RF energy to deliver energy to deep layers of the dermis, resulting in more collagen formation and more dramatic results. It can treat skin issues such as wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. This highly customizable treatment can be adjusted to provide the right level of intensity for your needs.

How Does Opus Plasma® Work?

Opus Plasma® uses microneedling technology to create tiny channels in the skin at a controlled depth. The microneedles emit pulses of RF energy as well as controlled plasma energy, stimulating the surrounding cells. This combination triggers a flood of growth and healing factors, promoting rapid healing and signaling cells in the dermis to make more collagen. Opus Plasma® is a fractional treatment, which means it treats a fraction of the skin’s surface, leaving untreated skin to begin the repair and improvement process.

How Many Opus Plasma® Treatments Do I Need?

Each person’s Opus Plasma® treatment plan is unique. We will customize your treatment based on your skin concerns and lifestyle, as the treatment can be “dialed” up or down depending on how aggressive you would like us to be. Some people have little to no time for recovery but do not mind having multiple treatments, in place of having just one CO2 laser resurfacing treatment that requires days of social downtime. Most people can achieve results similar to a CO2 laser treatment in three sessions and with much less recovery time.

We recommend a complimentary consultation so we can discuss your goals, lifestyle, and what kind of treatment schedule will best fit your needs. Deeper textural concerns or more significant hyperpigmentation may require more treatments.

Is There Any Downtime After Opus Plasma®?

The amount of downtime after Opus Plasma® depends on the intensity of your treatment. Most people will experience redness and sensitivity lasting one to two days. Those who have more intensive treatments may experience several days of redness and minor peeling. We will recommend aftercare products to hydrate your skin and decrease downtime. Avoid sun exposure while your skin is healing.

Am I a Good Candidate for Opus Plasma®?

Since Opus Plasma® does not use light energy, it is safe for all skin types and tones. Good candidates are in good health and have reasonable expectations. Opus Plasma® is recommended for individuals looking for the power of a CO2 laser without the recovery time. You should not have this treatment while you have an active skin condition or infection in the treatment area. People with certain medical conditions may not be good candidates.
