What's the Best Treatment for Acne Scars?

Acne can be frustrating and cause emotional distress. The acne scars it leaves behind can be a lifelong problem. Erase acne scarring and achieve smooth, even skin with Opus™ Plasma skin resurfacing. This treatment can effectively eliminate these visible reminders of past breakouts.

What Causes Acne Scarring?

Not everyone with acne develops scars as a result. You may develop acne scars for many reasons. Some people have a genetic tendency to form scars when their skin is damaged. Cystic acne forms deep in the skin and often leaves scars, but any type can cause them, especially if you squeeze, pick, or interfere with blemishes. Scarring occurs when the skin is disrupted and repairs itself with scar tissue, which looks different from normal skin.

What’s the Best Treatment for Acne Scars?

Many treatments are often used for acne scars, including microneedling and laser treatments. Your Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute team uses Opus™ Plasma to treat acne scars. Opus™ Plasma is an innovative treatment combining radiofrequency and plasma energies. It breaks up areas of scar tissue and triggers the formation of new collagen that will replace your scars with smooth skin. Opus™ Plasma can address many types of acne scars, including atrophic (sunken) or hypertrophic (raised) scars.

How Does Opus™ Plasma Treat Acne Scars?

Opus™ Plasma is a fractional treatment, which means it creates tiny areas of controlled damage surrounded by healthy skin. It uses small metal pins that emit radiofrequency energy. When they come close to your skin, this energy transforms into plasma. The plasma creates microchannels that break apart areas of scar tissue. It also triggers collagen development. Collagen, the natural framework of your skin, will leave your scars flat and smooth.

Is There Any Downtime With Acne Scar Treatment?

You may experience redness, dryness, and minor peeling for 24 to 48 hours after Opus™ Plasma acne scar treatment. You can resume most of your usual activities immediately. Avoid sun exposure and use sun protection after treatment. Healing after Opus™ Plasma is minimal when compared to intensive laser treatments but offers comparable results. While your acne scars will not reappear, you can develop new ones. We will work with you to develop a successful acne management program that keeps your skin scar-free.

Am I a Good Candidate for Acne Scar Treatment?

Most people with acne scars make good candidates for Opus™ Plasma treatment. Ideal candidates have a plan for keeping acne under control in the future. You might not be a good candidate for Opus™ Plasma if you tend to form keloid scars or have certain medical conditions. This non-laser treatment is safe for all skin types and tones.
