Sclerotherapy Albuquerque & Santa Fe

Spider veins that appear on your legs are an aesthetic issue, but their effect on your confidence is nothing to ignore. If discolored spider veins have you covering up your legs, sclerotherapy may be the right solution for you. This treatment fades problem veins so you enjoy smooth, clear skin.

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment used to treat pesky spider veins. A sclerosing solution is injected directly into the small spider veins, and the solution causes damage to the vein’s inner walls. The treated vein collapses and fades away over time, erasing the appearance of your unwanted spider veins. Sclerotherapy is usually the preferred spider vein treatment.

What is Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins?

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment for spider veins and small varicose veins. It uses a compound called a sclerosant that hardens and damages the vein walls. This damage causes the vein to collapse, stopping blood flow. Blood will easily divert to healthier veins. As the “gold standard” treatment for spider veins, sclerotherapy is safe and widely used.

No one likes to look at their legs or face and see little blue and purple lines networking across their skin like a road map. Let’s take a look at what these spider veins are, how we can treat them, and how we can prevent them over time.

Bess Holt, RNBess Holt, RN, is the newest addition to the staff of Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute. Bess attended nursing school in her home town of Miami, FL, where she was class valedictorian. Bess is an experienced, dedicated nurse, and has worked in the operating room as a scrub nurse and registered nurse for several decades. Having received advanced training in sclerotherapy (treatment for spider veins), Bess has been an accomplished sclerotherapist for 6 years now and has developed a reputation as Albuquerque’s best sclerotherapist. She is a tremendous asset to both our vein clinic, as well as the vein patients of Albuquerque.

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel causing the vein to close. Over the course of weeks to months the veins fade and disappear.

Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure and has been in use since the 1930s. At Albuquerque Vein & Laser Institute, I use FDA-approved Sotradecol and Asclera, which give much better results and is far less painful than the traditional hypertonic saline injections.
